HOW TO DEFEAT HARPER: Thinking Outside the Box!

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein

Percentage of Canadians who Opposed Herr Harper in the 2011 Election:
61%
Do you want to defeat Harper? He has already borrowed from the playbook of famous fascists, dissolving Parliament when he didn't like what the democratic representatives of the majority were up to. Not once but twice. Now he controls the Executive branch of government, and through it he will attempt to bend the other two branches to his whim. We know he has no interest in sharing power with the two-thirds of Canadians who disagree with him. Now, the Fuhrer has the retirement income of seniors and funding for the CBC on the chopping block to pay for his prisons and fighter jets. Convenient that he did not bring this up during the election a few short months ago, yet he continues to speak of having a "mandate" to dictate because he got less than 40% of the popular vote. Who is next? How much further is he willing to go? Are YOU ready to get off your ass and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?
YOU have a choice.
Right now. Today. Right this instant.
Sit back on your thumbs and watch the leadership race in the Liberals and NDP take shape. Then cross your fingers and HOPE that the two new leaders have the intelligence and foresight to put the interests of Canadians above the interests of their own individual political parties. Frankly, we should be very cynical that the deeply ingrained Liberal and NDP party establishments will allow this to happen.
The opposition parties gave us a Steven Harper majority through their self-interest, pettiness, and stupidity. All they had to do was cooperate before the election. Instead they chose to vote split and squabble over who gets Stornoway, gift wrapping a Harper majority  that is now systematically dismantling the Canada of Pierre Trudeau and Tommy Douglas.
Canadians get the government they deserve.
IT IS TIME TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.
THE GOVERNMENT BELONGS TO THE 61% TO WIN OR LOSE. THE LIBERALS AND NDP CHOOSE TO LOSE, BY CHOOSING NOT TO WORK TOGETHER. ITS TIME CANADIANS SMACKED SOME SENSE INTO THEM!
Canadians have another choice. We can, en mass, control the direction of these parties through the leadership selection process. Voting in a general election is about the weakest influence you wield. All the decisions are already taken at that point.
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SHAPE THE FUTURE YOU NEED TO SHAPE WHO BECOMES LEADER OF THE PARTY.
Harper will continue winning majority governments as long as the opposition remains fragmented, due to vote splitting in key swing ridings. This is well known.
The only way to defeat Harper is for at least some of the progressive opposition parties (preferably the Liberals and NDP) to cooperate BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTION. (Merger of centre-left parties is out of the question. We must find another way.)
As citizens we must stand up and demand that the opposition parties cooperate, so that the 39% minority that voted for Harper can not dictate to the 61% who opposed him.
THERE IS A WAY THAT THIS CAN BE DONE.
1. Only members of a political party can vote on who becomes Leader.
2. Right now both key opposition parties are having leadership races. Currently the party establishments in each party seem dead set against cooperating.
3. If Canadians who are part of the 61% majority want a government that represents them we are going to have to find a way to force the opposition parties to work together, against their natural inclination and self-interest.
4. At the moment only one leadership candidate in either opposition party has been pushing for cooperation among the 61%, and that is Nathan Cullen for the NDP.
5. The NDP leadership is decided by a one-member-one-vote ballot. Every member of the NDP gets one vote for the leader, and members can vote online or by mail. With that membership you get one vote, exactly the same vote as the party President, as Ed Broadbent, or as any of the currently sitting MPs.
6. Any citizen of Canada can join the NDP. The cost for a one year membership is practically free, it is $1 if you are under 27 years old, unemployed, or define yourself as "underemployed." If you have a good income the cost is just $10, still practically free, given what is at stake with social programs that each of us will directly benefit from at some point in our life.
7. The NDP establishment and other leadership candidates have strongly resisted the Cullen campaign's calls for opposition cooperation prior to the next election. Self-interest seems likely to win out, dooming us all to a second Harper Majority when the next election finally rolls around. But there is a solution.
THE SOLUTION:
Anyone who joins the NDP on or before midnight of February 18, 2012, can vote for Nathan Cullen as leader. It's dead easy to join the NDP online, right this minute, by going here.
If we do not want another Harper Regime majority we must mobilize strategic voters among the 61% who want the opposition parties to cooperate against Harper in the next election. We must organize an en mass, grass roots invasion of the NDP membership by all walks of Canadian citizens. This is way too big and important to worry about petty party affiliations or tribal loyalties to orange, red or green.
We must send droves of the progressive 61% flooding to join the NDP for $1 and vote for Nathan Cullen as NDP leader. Then after the leadership is over they can do what they want with their NDP memberships. They can rescind the membership and go back to their old party (ie. Lib or Green). They can let the membership expire after a year (long before the next election). Or they can stay on in the NDP and fight under that banner.
This would seriously piss-off the entrenched NDP back-room boys, but it is 100% legit and by the book. There is nothing stopping Canadian citizens from deciding to do this, in fact the NDP is deliberately hoping to entice more members by keeping their membership rates low.
All of our social programs since the Great Depression are in jeopardy under Herr Harper. Aren't the stakes high enough? The NDP is the Official Opposition, so all Canadians opposing Harper have a vested interest in seeing Nathan Cullen win the NDP leadership, even those who are committed Greens or Liberals. It would be wise for all of them to give up their usual party affiliations for a few months to make this happen. They can always renounce their NDP membership and go back, if they choose.

We as the 61% have a right to demand that our representatives get their shit together and defeat the 39% who are currently acting as our dictators. We need to find a way to force the opposition to sit down together, even if Canadians have to hold a club over their heads by stacking their leadership vote with average citizens.
THAT CLUB IS IN YOUR HANDS RIGHT NOW.
The only catch is that YOU MUST JOIN THE PARTY BY MIDNIGHT OF FEB. 18TH!
Don't put it off.
